The family story begins in 1941
when three gentlemen, Mr. Street, Mr. Cain and Mr. Strange
started San Joaquin Sulphur Co. In 1957, Lodi-born brothers,
Bruce and Ralph Burlington, purchased San Joaquin Sulphur
Company from the previous owners, and our family has been at the
helm ever since. Ralph studied agriculture at UC Davis and did
the field work while Bruce tended to the customers in the shop,
the warehouse and the bookkeeping. They come from a farming
family who grew a variety of crops and had vineyards
themselves. They ground, blended, and bagged sulphur which came
in on the rail cars behind the warehouse. As a full service ag
supplier they carried a complete line of crop protection and
fertilization products for all of the local row and permanent
crops. The dynamic duo worked hard to provide personalized
service to the growers, making the deliveries themselves after
hours. |

In 1971 we started designing and
installing flood and sprinkler irrigation systems. This evolved
into what is Quantum Irrigation today, providing a complete line
of irrigation solutions for vineyards and orchards.
We currently have three
generations of Bruce’s (my Dad) family working to continue the
values and traditions at San Joaquin Sulphur Company. We grew
up watching the weather, enjoying California produce and
thinking of the growers as our ‘extended family’. I joined the
company in 1993. My husband and I grow our grapes using
sustainable farm practices under the Lodi Rules Program. Our
children represent the fifth generation of farmers and
farm-suppliers in our family. We still provide the highest
level of service, treat each customer fairly and offer the best
solutions available today. Best of all, we are still a family
owned, independent farm supply retailer.
